HCC WELCOMES Mayor of Nishinomiya City, Hon. Toshiro ISHII & the Ambassador of the Government of Japan, His Excellency Miwa Yoshiaki

THE Honiara City Council (HCC) Lord Mayor Edward Kasuteé Siapu has warmly welcomed the Mayor of Nishinomiya City, from Japan, Honorable Toshiro Ishii, and the Ambassador of the Government of Japan to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Miwa Yoshiaki on a courtesy visitation to Honiara City Head Office on the 10th of July, 2023.

The courtesy call was a very important event, in which the exchange of notes signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Promoting Mutual Exchange and Cooperative Relationship between Honiara and Nishinomiya as Environmental Learning Cities.

“Honiara City Council signed the declaration making Honiara City an Environmental Learning City with Nishinomiya City on 31 October 2019. Since the signing, my government has been working very hard to advocate for and implement the 5 Action Charters of the Declaration,” City Mayor Kasuteé Siapu explained.

He uttered that the exchange of notes between Honiara City and Nishinomiya City will further strengthen the collaboration and partnership in this noble approach.

“Honiara City Council is a service-oriented organization. We are mandated to deliver services effectively and efficiently. Service delivery is in various sectors, education, health, law and order, commerce and trade, waste management and control, women’s development, youth development, and sports. These are ongoing programs of HCC,” Mayor said.

HCC wants to continue dialogue with the Mayor and the Government of Nishinomiya City, Japan, to further realize our cooperation as provided for in the Sister Relationship Agreement. We want to consolidate our relationship through some tangible projects. We request your office to facilitate further dialogue with our Sister City through virtual meetings. In the near future, HCC Councilors also want to visit and meet our friends in Nishinomiya City, said Honiara City Mayor.

Honiara City Mayor explained Honiara City signed the Declaration as an Environmental Learning City on 31 October 2019 in which the declaration makes Honiara City advocate for the promotion of environmental learning and the protection of the environment. Honiara wants to continue its partnership and collaboration with Nishinomiya City in furthering environmental learning.

Meanwhile, HCC Mayor thanked Nishinomiya Mayor Toshiro Ishii and the people of Nishinomiya City, Japan for donating HCC with two compactor trucks for picking up garbage in the city.
