PROVINCIAL HEADQUARTERS NEEDS DECENTRALIZATION DEVELOPMENTS TO AVOID CITY NUISANCES

THE Honiara City Council (HCC) Health Chairman, Councilor Reginald Ngāti Sanau has highlighted that provincial headquarters needs decentralization developments in order to avoid city nuisances.

He uttered that people migrated to Honiara city because they believed it was their only hope to improve their lives.

“When talking about nuisances here, obviously I am talking about people who illegally built market stalls and illegally did fundraisings within the city boundary,” Cr. Sanau explained.

He further expressed that he was worried and afraid that Honiara city is mounting up to a severe problem thus trying to impose its ordinances. Still, if the national government does not give light back to the substations in the provinces, these nuisances in the city will not stop, it will worsen in years to come.

HCC Health Chairman, however, elaborated that even Guadalcanal people now don’t want the Honiara boundary to be extended, so the city must build up to the sky. Still, it is evident that we are not capable of doing so at this stage.

“It is time for the national government to put its focus into granting more economic activities to the sub-stations in the provinces, like for instance, fisheries, agriculture, etc. so that village people can easily have access to sell their products, and as well better their lives,” he expressed.

This is the challenge Honiara city is facing right now, therefore, if the government looks seriously into this matter, and does something now then we will be heading the right way, said HCC Health Chairman.

“Decentralization is what truly matters here, the provincial substations need to boost more economic activities, however, it depends entirely on the national governments,” Cr. Sanau added.

He said to stop this problem of nuisances as we have experienced it now, as of next year, 2024, the national government needs to slowly bring light back into the rural areas.
