HONIARA CITY COUNCIL WELCOMES SOLOMON ISLANDS HIGH COMMISSIONER IN PNG, HE WILLIAM SOAKI

THE Honiara City Council Lord Mayor Edward Siapu has warmly welcomed His Excellency (HE) William Soaki, Solomon Islands High Commission to Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the courtesy call at the office of the Lord Mayor on Monday 24th of April, 2023, in Honiara.

City Mayor expressed gratitude and acknowledgment on behalf of his Executive, Councilors and staff in thanking His Excellency William Soaki for having the courtesy to visit Honiara City Council.

The discussions during the courtesy visitation were based mainly on exploring opportunities to establish a sister relationship with Port Moresby, PNG.

He explained the Honiara City Council had already established its sister relationship with Nishnimonya City in Japan, Jiangmen City People’s Republic of China, Mackay City in Australia and Port Vila City in Vanuatu, and there is a plan to establish a sister city relationship with Suva City in Fiji, and as well exploring possibilities of establishing sister city relationship with Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.

“Papua New Guinea is the Solomon Islands big Melanesian brother and Port Moresby is the biggest Melanesian City near Honiara hence we should explore this bilateral bond, “City Mayor expressed.

Lord Mayor has thanked His Excellency William Soaki for information on possible support by PNG Police deployed in Honiara in cleanups of Honiara streets to remove betel nut stalls and other illegal market stalls.

He also extended his belated congratulations on His Excellency’s appointment as the Solomon Islands High Commissioner TO Papua New Guinea.

“Your appointment to head our country’s mission in Papua New Guinea is timely and deserving. Your wealth of experience and diplomatic acumen puts you in the right stead,” he uttered.

Honiara City Mayor said he is confident that His Excellency will continue to discharge his duties with dignity and integrity, no doubt whatsoever on this, he commended and congratulates His Excellency on his appointment as the Solomon Islands High Commission to PNG.
