THE Honiara City Council (HCC) Physical Planning Division Chairman, Councillor (Cr) Charles Auwosuga has strongly appealed to the residents of Honiara to comply with the HCC Building Ordinance.

The Councillor and Chairman of the HCC Physical Planning Division said that before anyone attempted to build, they must seek advice from the Physical Planning Division for assessment before any approvals.

He highlights that nowadays Honiara City’s population has increased, and people just build houses along the hillsides as well as digging the ground to a balanced level before building houses which are classified as illegal buildings (Houses).

“We have heard from the local news numerous devastating events affecting the surrounding Honiara Communities, like landslides, and other similar tragedies that cost loss of lives.

“Again, I strongly appealed especially to the Honiara residents to comply with the Building Ordinance of the Honiara City Council,” Cr. Auwosuga expressed.

Lives were taken because of our carelessness, if we lived within the jurisdiction of the Honiara City Council, we must follow its building processes, says the Chairman for Physical Planning Cr. Auwosuga.
