Happy 45th Independence Anniversary Celebrations

On behalf of the Honiara City Councillors, City Clerk, and staff, I am greatly honored and pleased to join the national government, provincial governments, and people of Solomon Islands in celebrating our 45th Independence Anniversary on the theme: ‘Rising above and overcoming all our challenges as one people.’

INDEPENDENCE Day is an occasion to celebrate, and remember the struggles and sacrifices of our forefathers who fought to give us this gift of sovereignty! We pay tribute to their wisdom and heartfelt passion for us to be one nation, one people.

In commemoration of this auspicious occasion, let us all acknowledge and appreciate our contributions as legislators, policymakers, development partners, provincial governments, public servants, community leaders, Churches, stakeholders, and as citizens of Solomon Islands, in progressing our country over the last 45 years.

Therefore, Honiara City endeavors to foster its institutional strengthening machinery to enhance good governance and development aspirations towards the socio-economic well-being of the communities in Honiara and the visiting public.

Going forward this year, Honiara will have the challenge of hosting the Pacific Games 2023. We believe that our love for the city and country will enable us to cooperate and collaborate in making Honiara a safe, clean, and green city for the Games.

The Honiara City Council leadership appeal to all residents of Honiara and visitors to Honiara for support in cleaning and beautifying Honiara. Honiara is our city, our home. We appeal that each and every one of us throws our rubbish in the bins provided. All of us have an important role to play in keeping Honiara clean and beautiful.

The Solomon Islands as Our Nation has shown over the past 44 years that we can overcome adversities, and let us continue to do so with strong determination, steadfast hope, and cooperative spirit to support our government and build our Nation together as one people.

May we all prioritize what we can do for our Happy Isles to make it a place of wealth, peace, and prosperity.

A blessed 45th Independence anniversary celebration to one and all.

God Bless Solomon Islands from shore to shore.
