The Honiara City Councilors and senior staff have recently attended a two-day workshop facilitated by the Pacific TA team from New Zealand (NZ).
The workshop was held on the 13th and 14th of September 2023, at the King Solomon Hotel conference room, aiming at instilling into Honiara City Council mechanisms that map out priority areas of service delivery obligations.
A statement from the Honiara City Council Lord Mayor Eddie Kasuteé Siapu highlighted that the workshop is an opportunity for the Honiara City Council (HCC) to learn the importance of good governance, and to implement it.
He said it is time for Honiara City Council to refocus, reorganize, and look forward to ensuring its service delivery obligations are fully satisfactory to the Honiara residents and the visiting public.
Mayor Siapu explained the workshop is very important because it will guide the council to ensure Honiara City Council properly formulates its corporate plan.
Lord Mayor also thanked and acknowledged the Pacific TA Team from New Zealand for a long week of providing technical advisory support aimed at improving the City Council services.
The training was to assess the Honiara City Council with technical expertise in the areas of asset management, city planning, waste management, governance, strategic planning, and financial management said the City Mayor.
He also highlights that the visitation of the Pacific TA team from New Zealand was timely and it is a great privilege and Honor for Honiara City Council to learn from such technical expertise.
He said the New Zealand Local Government through Pacific TA has been working with the Suva City Council in Fiji, and Port Vila City Council in Vanuatu for the past five years, and then Honiara City Council just joined the program in September last year, 2022.
The relationship that has been established with the Local Government of New Zealand is destined to strengthen the governance, administration, and operations of Honiara City Council which will eventually result in an improved and modern Honiara City.
“On behalf of the Honiara City Councilors, Clerk, and staff, I would like to greatly appreciate and respect the Pacific TA team for providing high-quality training for councilors and staff,” the City Mayor expressed.
