The Honiara City Council (HCC) Finance Team has been inspecting canteen stores across the city over the past two weeks. Individuals who have not yet paid their canteen license fees have been urged to visit the cashier to settle their payments.
Deputy Treasurer Mathew Tuanivalu, who is leading the inspection efforts on the field, reported that the inspections on the East and West sides of Honiara are complete, and the team will focus on Central Honiara next week. This initiative is a joint operation between the Law Enforcement Team and Finance Team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
“We normally give a 7-day notice, and if there is no compliance after 7 days, the Finance Team and Law Enforcement Team will issue a stop notice,” Tuanivalu stated.
This means that you have a window of 7 days to pay your fees even after receiving a stop notice. If you settle your fees within this period or before the stop notice is formally served to you, you can avoid any penalties or consequences associated with the stop notice, says the Deputy Treasurer.
He noted that the yearly canteen license fee is $840. For new canteens starting between July and December, a half-year fee is applicable, but this does not extend to existing canteens.
Tuanivalu emphasized the importance of cooperation among residents to make Honiara a more livable city.
