TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR LITTERING AND PAYING ON-THE-SPOT FINES

The Honiara City Council (HCC) Law Enforcement officers have arrested two individuals and served them infringement notices for littering under the Litter Ordinance on Monday 26th February 2024.

According to the HCC Law Enforcement Division reports, the two individuals, who have been arrested are as follows; 1. Kai Bar (Business House), Seven Meter By-Law applied, and a maximum penalty of $1000 on the spot fine, and 2. A passenger littering from a vehicle with a maximum penalty of $100 on-the-spot fine.

However, the action demonstrates to the city residents and the visiting public that the Law Enforcement Officers are out to enforce the Council’s Ordinances and will not give warnings to anyone who breaches the city ordinances.

It is believed awareness programs on these issues have already been made clear to the Honiara occupants and the visiting public through media outlets so no more excuses.

“On-spot fine is now enforced by the Honiara City Council Law Enforcement Division, which means if someone is caught on the spot, he or she will be penalized with a maximum penalty.

“For business houses, a seven-meter by-law will be applied to any of them if breach the litter ordinance. The maximum penalty for a spot fine to business houses is $1000 or if refuse to pay will mount up to $10,000, whilst littering from vehicles a maximum penalty of $100, or refuse to pay will mount up to $2000.”

The Honiara City Council Law Enforcement officers will not be tolerant of anyone who breaches the Honiara City Council Litter Ordinance.

“We must work together to make Honiara City great again.”
