RSIPF FACILITATES TRAINING FOR 53 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

A total of fifty-three (53) Law Enforcement Officers of the Honiara City Council (HCC) are currently undergoing training facilitated by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Rove Police Academy which commences on 22nd January 2024.

The 53 officers comprised 22 serving officers and 33 new recruits of which 11 were females.

In a remark by the Deputy Mayor and Chairman of Law Enforcement Division Councilor (Cr) Robert Oge during the induction highlights that he thanked the national government for its wisdom and forward thinking that enabled the parliament to pass the crucial HCC second amendment Bill 2023.

“We can now reflect and say that the Pacific Games 2023 has truly brought in needed change, especially in the city council.”

He thanked the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) for again hosting the second cohorts of the Honiara City Council Law Enforcement Division at the Police Academy.

“I know that RSIPF has its recruit intake coming in a few weeks but again big thank you for allowing us to use your training facilities and your hard-working facilitators as a priority, which reflects the collaboration between our two organizations’ purely intact,” the Deputy Mayor expressed.

Deputy Mayor explained that in July last year, parliament passed the HCC second amendment Bill in which the new law now allows the Minister to appoint HCC Law Enforcement officers.

“The purpose of the law is to further strengthen the law enforcement division, and further place greater emphasis on high visibility and presence in our city,” he said.

Furthermore, he uttered that the amendment act now gives greater responsibility to our Law Enforcement team to ensure a safe, green, and peaceful Honiara.

Dealing with public order management and enforcing the various ordinances of the Honiara City Council is not an easy task but the training that was provided by the RSIPF will be your testament once graduate, says Deputy Mayor Oge.

He wished the fifty-three (55) Law Enforcement officers all the best in their training with the RSIPF.

“It is indeed a time to reflect on what has transpired towards the end of last year 2023 and to see the fruition of our collective effort today,” he said.
