HCC ENGAGES WITH EAST HONIARA CONSTITUENCY ON PROPOSED NEW CLINIC AT ILIA SCHOOL AREA

The Honiara City Council (HCC) recently held a dialogue with members of the East Honiara Constituency Committee to discuss the establishment of a new healthcare clinic at the Ilia School area in East Honiara.

This important initiative aims to improve access to healthcare services for residents in East Honiara.

During the meeting, both parties emphasized the critical need for improved health services in the region. The proposed clinic is set to offer essential services, including maternal and child care, vaccinations, and general outpatient consultations. These services are expected to significantly reduce the burden on residents who currently travel long distances for basic healthcare needs.

The construction of the clinic is anticipated to commence in the short term, pending further dialogues and the signing of a partnership agreement expected to be made within this month of February.

Furthermore, HCC Mayor Cr. Siapu acknowledges and appreciates the Member of Parliament for East Honiara, Hon. Morris Toiraena, and his Constituency Officers for prioritizing the Ilia Urban Health Center project in the constituency development plan.

HCC is truly grateful for the collaboration and partnership in this essential project, said Mayor Siapu.

The HCC Lord Mayor highlighted the importance of community involvement throughout the project’s development and operational phases.

He assured that the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) and other relevant authorities would be engaged to ensure that the facility is adequately resourced and maintained.

Community leaders at Gilbert Camp expressed strong support for the project, recognizing its potential to improve health outcomes in East Honiara.

They also raised pertinent questions regarding the clinic’s long-term sustainability, particularly concerning staffing and maintenance.

In response to the questions raised, Mayor Siapu explained that HCC will be committed to addressing these concerns in collaboration with MHMS to ensure the clinic’s enduring success.

This initiative aligns with HCC’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare infrastructure within Honiara, reflecting a commitment to the well-being of its residents, says Mayor Cr. Siapu.

The council calls upon the community to actively participate and support the project, underscoring that collective effort is vital for the clinic’s successful realization.
