Honiara City Council (HCC) Heads of Divisions recently engaged in a two-day leadership and management training program at the King Solomon Hotel on October 23 and 24, 2024.
The training, led by the Pacific Technical Advisory team from New Zealand, aimed to strengthen leadership capabilities and enhance the administrative skills of HCC’s divisional heads to improve service delivery in Honiara.
The Pacific TA, known for its expertise in leadership development across the Pacific region, facilitated various sessions covering essential topics such as strategic planning, effective communication, decision-making, and resource management.
Interactive training encouraged the divisional heads to apply these skills to real-world challenges, helping them gain insights into managing resources and driving positive outcomes in their respective areas of responsibility.
During the opening ceremony, HCC Deputy Clerk Jefferson Patovaki expressed the council’s commitment to investing in its leadership team as a broader strategy to improve governance and public service.
The Deputy Clerk emphasized the importance of strong, effective leadership at the divisional level in meeting Honiara’s growing needs.
Meanwhile, HCC Chief Planning Officer Malcolm Denis Ikemani responded positively to the training, highlighting how the sessions helped them understand their roles within a larger organizational framework.
He noted that the Pacific TA team fostered collaboration, enabling division heads to share experiences and strategies.
This was particularly valued as it provided practical tools and methods to manage the unique challenges they faced within the public sector.
This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening local governance and aligns with Honiara City Council’s mission to enhance residents’ quality of life by ensuring efficient and responsive public services.
