CR KONOFILIA RECEIVES SOLAR PANEL SYSTEMS FROM BF FOR WHITERIVER COMMUNITY

Over the weekend on Sunday 30th June 2024, the Bartlett Foundation (BF) made a significant contribution to the Whiteriver Community by handing over 10 solar panels and 10 posts, fully installed, which were held at the White River Police Station.

The handover ceremony was attended by Honiara City Council (HCC) Councilor (Cr) Rex Konofilia, representing the Ngossi Ward, alongside members of the Whiteriver community.

Councilor Konofilia expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Honiara City Council and the community of Whiteriver. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering community development and addressing the challenge faced by women and girls in the community during the nights.

Cr Konofilia announced that these new solar panel systems would address the issue of harassment of women and girls at night. Improved lighting from the solar panels aims to enhance safety and security, reducing the risk of nighttime harassment in affected areas.

“This generous donation by Bartlett Foundation (BF) not only supports our local infrastructure but also sets a precedent for other companies to do the same,” he explained.

Chairman for HCC Works Division Cr Konofilia highlights that the gift from BF to the Whiteriver community comes with no political strings attached. This gesture is purely intended to support the community without any underlying political motives or conditions.

Community members also shared their appreciation, acknowledging the positive impact the solar panels will have on their daily lives. The improved energy supply is expected to benefit the surrounding areas in the Whiteriver community.
