HCC LAW ENFORCEMENT TO DEMOLISH ILLEGAL BETELNUT STALLS/ BETELNUT & CIGARETTE VENDING

The Honiara City Council (HCC) Law Enforcement Division will continue its operation to demolish illegal betelnut stalls and prohibit betelnut and cigarette vending along the highways, and main streets of the city.

According to the Betelnut Ordinance of Honiara City Council, Betelnut Free Zones prohibit the establishment of betelnut stalls and the selling of betelnut or cigarettes along the highway or on the city’s main streets. Law Enforcement Director Robert Madeo stated, “If you get caught by HCC Law Enforcement officers you will be charged and prosecuted.”

Again, to remind us Honiara residents and visitors that the Betelnut Free Zones in Honiara City are designated as follows:

a) Mendana Avenue

b) Hibiscus Avenue

c) Kukum Highway

d) Prince Phillip Highway

e) Tandai Highway

He said these zones have been established under the authority granted by sections 34 and 35 of the Honiara City Act 1999.

Residents and visitors are reminded to adhere to these regulations to maintain cleanliness and public health says the Law Enforcement director Madeo.
