HONIARA City Council (HCC) Lord Mayor Edward Siapu has welcomed Mr. Zhao Xiaobin, Director of Jiangmen Foreign Affairs Bureau, and Mr. Liang Yong Ban, Sector Chief of Jiangmen Foreign Affairs Bureau from the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) on their courtesy call at Lord Mayor’s office on Tuesday 30th May 2023.
in his discussion with Jiangmen Foreign Affairs Bureau representatives, the City Mayor highlights since Honiara City establishes sister-city relations with Jiangmen City, this is the first-time high-level officials from Jiangmen City visited Honiara City.
He said Jiangmen City had already supported Honiara City with waste management vehicles, three (3) compactors, and ten (10) motorcycles for the Law Enforcement Division, and Honiara City was thankful for such generosity rendered by Jiangmen City.
City Mayor explained the support from Jiangmen City has truly strengthened the sister relationship had with them.
He uttered that Honiara City is hosting the Pacific Games in November this year, 2023, whilst PRC has been funding the construction of the modern stadium in East Honiara for the games.
“This is a huge improvement and facelift for Honiara City,” he said.
He expressed Honiara City will continue to strengthen the relationship thus councilors are looking forward to visiting Jiangmen City anytime soon.
“Honiara City wants to be included in future developments supported by PRC as part of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and therefore, for the alleviation of poverty,” the City Mayor said.
