THE Honiara City Council (HCC) through its Health Division had successfully held a one-day workshop at Bishops Dale in West Honiara for the West Honiara community leaders, and the youth leaders on the 13th of February, 2023.
This one-day awareness program was purposely to integrate with communities within Honiara City Council Jurisdiction in an effort to promote a clean and healthy environment.
The Director of HCC Health Division, Doctor Chris Becha said, basically the awareness program is to promote a clean and healthy environment in which truly needs our cooperation.
“Through the cooperation the communities in Honiara built with the Honiara City Council, we will address the health and the environmental issues Honiara residents encounter,” Dr. Becha expressed.
The HCC Health Director, Doctor Becha also highlighted, “HCC and its Health Division is here to promote the community ownership, community partnership, community self-reliance and sustainability of community programs of matters relating to our health and environment.”
He said working together is the number one key to address all the health and the environmental issues Honiara residents encountered every now and then.
Speaking to the West Honiara participants, Councilor for Vura Ward and also the Chairman of HCC Health Division, Mr. Reginald Ghati Sanau highlighted, “the reform programs of HCC for this year 2023, in which HCC really wants to embark on are these three pillars; 1. Reclaim, 2. Reorganize, 3. Redirect.
He said this idea of taking these three pillars on board comes after many observations HCC have with its management level, government level and externally public level of criticisms that comes every now and then on different platforms.
Councilor Sanau explained that these criticisms are really good somehow because it is where HCC can see the gabs that needs to be taken.
“Honiara City Council and its Health Division is here to work together with the communities in Honiara city to address environment and health issues affecting the Honiara residents,” councilor Sanau expressed.
The Chairman for HCC Health Division has also thanked the participants for attending the program.
“Your attendance today indicates that you have concern to hear what HCC has to offer to you, and at the same time, you have concern to ensure as a community, you have to connect to the Honiara City Council,” HCC Chairman for Health Division uttered.
A participant who was part of the workshop Mr. Rubinson Diosi expressed, communities within the Honiara city should connect with HCC to make sure health and environmental issues fixed.
“What HCC Health Division is doing now is very important because the authority itself came down to the communities to work hand in hand to address health and environmental challenges Honiara residents have encountered,” Mr. Diosi expressed.
He said this is a better way forward for all Honiara residents and as well as the whole country.
“We must collaborate closely with the responsible authorities in making sure we live in a clean and healthy environment,” he said.
