HONIARA City Council (HCC) Health Division Chairman, Councilor for Vura Ward 11, Cr Reginald Ghati Sanau urged the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to reactivate the National Food and Security Board (NFSB).
He highlights the National Food and Security Board (NFSB) is a very important body within MHMS because their role is to do check and balance on import foods that are ending up in the country, locally and internationally they monitor foods that are coming in.
“Since inactiveness of NFSB, it brings a great risk to our country, in terms of food security,” said Councilor for Vura Ward Cr. Sanau.
He has been questioning how do we identify import food types that are coming into the country, thus how do we control selling of food in the country?
“This is my biggest concern since NFSB is inactive for the past ten plus years,” Cr Sanau expressed.
He further highlighted the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to engage the National Food and Security Board (NFSB) to do its mandated role as per its function of existence.
“Honiara city is a gateway in this country, and one of the biggest problems in our country now is NCD in which truly affects women, men, and children,” Cr Sanau expressed.
Food is a dangerous weapon that kills people today, therefore, the destruction it has on humans are massive than ammunition combine together to kill humans, says HCC Health Chairman.
“Actually, it seems we have no control over food we consume in our bodies, it is more like we are committing suicide to ourselves,” he said.
He uttered that he was afraid of the food trend that are coming in the city right now, which shops in Honiara city are selling to people every now and then for daily consumption.
“Our diet is very important for because it determines our health status. We must control our diet,” Cr Sanau explained.
He urges the National Food and Security Board to do their work diligently.
